This article is about understanding our heritage root. The PM has made effort to connect the Malay heritage by coming to Maccasar. The Malay Maccasar has also had a significant impact on Australia's history when their ancestors had visited and traded with the Aboriginals north of Australia.

MAKASSAR (South Sulawesi): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has been invited as the guest of honour at the 689th anniversary of the Gowa (ancient Bugis government) administration.

Najib, who was awarded an honorary Bugis title four years ago, is the only head of government invited for the celebration to be held later Wednesday.

A colourful ceremony where Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor will be officially 'invited' to don the Gowa special attire will be held at the residence of South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo.

After the 'amantuli' (official invitation according to Bugis custom) Najib and Rosmah will leave for the Syekh Yusuf Discover Square for the anniversary celebration.

Najib will later address the gathering where he is expected to touch on the special friendship bond between the people of South Sulawesi and Malaysia.

Najib and Rosmah are expected to arrive at the Sultan Hasanuddin Airport for the ceremony at noon where he will immediately witness the signing of four memorandum of understanding between various Malaysian organisations and their local counterparts.

These include an MoU involving the setting up of an embryo for animal husbandry here.

Heritage Landscape Workshop

Salam semua

Susulan daripada cadangan myparks untuk menganjurkan Bengkel Landskap Warisan 2009 ini, saya memohon sukarelawan dari kalangan pelajar yang pernah mengambil kursus ini (yang berada di Shah Alam) untuk berjumpa di ofis saya. Tujuannya adalah untuk berbincang mengendalikan bengkel, mohon budget dan persiapan tempat dll. Saya mengalu-alukan penglibatan dari pelajar ini (juga bakal pelajar kursus ini!) kerana mereka mempunyai latarbelakang mengenai landskap warisan ini.

Sedikit penjelasan mengenai bengkel:

Apa itu Landskap Warisan:

Di iktiraf sebagai warisan dunia oleh UNESCO pada tahun 1992, landskap warisan atau landskap budaya adalah satu tinggalan warisan manusia yang cukup signifikan yang mewarnakan sesuatu tamadun itu. Setiap bangsa dimuka bumi ini telah mencorakkan identitinya melalui landskap yang dihuni oleh bangsa itu. Dari Amerika ke Jepun wajah bangsa dibaca menerusi landskapnya. Kenapakah landskap di Barat berbeza  dengan landskap di Asia? Kenapakah landskap bandar berbeza dengan landskap desa? Apa, siapa, kenapa dan bagaimana landskap terhasil?

Landskap kini menjadi penting kepada dunia kerana ia merupakan satu wadah yang menggambarkan proses pertembungan diantara manusia (budaya) dan landskapnya (alam semulajadi). Wadah ini amat penting kerana dengannya kita dapat membaca apa yang telah tersurat (bentuk landskap yang terhasil) dan yang tersirat (amalan budaya).

Di Malaysia istilah landskap masih tidak difahami maksudnya walaupun penggunaan istilah itu cukup meluas. Di Indonesia landskap bermaksud saujana (vista) dan kini diiktiraf sebagai warisan Indonesia yang dilindungi dan dipelihara. Ketika proses pengubalan Akta Warisan Negara pada tahun 2005 myparks telah menghantar satu memorandum mengenai konsep landskap warisan kepada kerajaan.

Menurut Unesco ada tiga jenis landskap yang diiktiraf sebagai warisan:

·         Landskap binaan (Designed landscape)

·         Landskap evolusi (Continuing/Evolved Landscape)

·         Landskap bersekutu (Associative Landscape)

 

Saya akan menerangkan  jenis-jenis landskap warisan tersebut dalam posting akan datang.

Hi members

I thought of conducting a half-day workshop about a topic that is getting a lot of attention by scholars and the international community. It is on heritage landscape. The Malaysian National Heritage Dept is also keen about this concept. Since I am currently teaching a course on planning and managing heritage sites here in UiTM and also had the chance to research on the same topic during my PhD studies, I thought it would be great to share with you the concept, insights, current thinking, methodology and applications on heritage landscape with particular reference to the Malaysian National Heritage Act 2005.

I plan to run the workshop in December 2009. The place is at the Faculty of Architecture Planning and Surveying, UiTM, Shah Alam.  Please state your interest by registering directly to my email giving your full name, email and contact number. This workshop is free. You only need to pay for your breakfast and lunch.

The map of the workshop, place and details will be given out once you have registered. I intend to limit to 20 participants as a start.

Examination Over!

On the 5 of November 2008, I received an email from the UniSA Graduate Studies Office. Finally the waiting for my PhD examination process is over. Both the examiners (one from Queensland, Australia and the other from Illinois, USA) have passed me with some corrections. Syukur alhamdulillah; I was really very nervous as I read the email that late afternoon.

The letter says that UniSA has given me (3) three months to do the revisions beginning 5 November 2008 (the date of the letter). That night I emailed my supervisor Dr Ian Clark.

The next morning, he responded by saying that he had just received the documents late yesterday and will be synthesizing them before he could advise on the course of action.

Anyway I am very happy and thanked Almighty and my family for the result.
